Kanjeevaram Sarees
Kanjeevaram saree also known as Kanchipuram saree weaving, is a traditional handloom weaving technique specific to Kanchipuram in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. These sarees are woven using pure mulberry silk yarn, which is considered to be of high quality. One of the distinguishing features of Kanjeevaram sarees is the extensive use of zari, which is metallic thread typically made of silver or gold. Zari is used to create intricate patterns, motifs, and borders on the sarees, adding a touch of opulence. These sarees are woven using a unique technique called the “double warp and weft.” This involves interlacing two different sets of silk threads, creating a strong and durable fabric with a distinctive texture.
