These sarees were first found and produced in the town of Maheshwar, hence the name. The interesting legend behind these sarees is of Queen Ahilyabai Holkar who ordered various craftsman and artisans from Malwa and Surat. In fact, it was the queen herself who designed the first saree. Following this, Maheshwari sarees became extremely popular in and around Madhya Pradesh. Maheshwari Saree\u00a0is\u00a0a cotton and pure silk fabric woven with zari or brocade in varied designs. The pure mulberry silk and the Zari used in the making of Kanchipuram saris comes from South India.To weave a Kanchipuram sari three shuttles are used. While the weaver works on the right side, his aide works on the left side shuttle. The border colour and design are usually quite different from the body. If the mundhi (the hanging end of the sari) has to be woven in a different shade, it is first separately woven and then delicately joined to the
